San Jose St's Brennan to Arizona... some history per SJ Merc-News

Apparently he did interview with Muir. But Muir went with Taylor. Has some past ties with the Wildcats.
Report this AM per SJ Merc-News linked just below... nice move up for him... we'll see if he can hold that needed core in Tucson and prevent ensuing portal-outs.

Will be interesting to see who succeeds him at SJSU ... we play the Spartans next fall at their place on Saturday Nov 30th.

Figured I'd make its own thread. An ILB committing on the spot after earning an offer at camp? Pretty cool!

Also wanted to point something out:
  • Powerlifting state champion, 300lb Charlie Hoitink's deadlift record: 585 lbs
  • 215lb Maxwell Richardson's deadlift record: 615 lbs

2024 Golf Kickoff

There's a Michael Thorbjornsen sighting! He hasn't been in a tournament since he withdrew from the US Men's Amateur with a stress fracture in his back last summer and also missed the Walker cup and all of the fall Stanford tournaments. He's teeing it up at the DP World tournament in Dubai and tied for 41st after round 1. He was even par with 4 birds and 2 doubles. Without Thorbjornsen, the men's team has fallen to 59th in the NCAA rankings. Thorbjornsen has slipped to 4th in the World Amateur rankings from 2nd due to his inactivity. He still leads the PGA Tour University standings where finishing first after the NCAA tournament earns a tour card.
Last year, the Men's came in 2nd at their regional and finished 8th at the NCAA championships. The team still has Barclay Brown and Karl Vilips as solid and veteran players. The next team event is at the end of the month at the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson.
Coach Ray signed three 2024 recruits. One is T. K. Chnatananuwat from Bangkok (you couldn't tell by his surname?) He won as an amateur on the Asian tour when he was 15!!! He climbed to 6th in the rankings but is currently ranked 56th. The other star is J. Leng Jr. who played for the USA in the Junior Ryder Cup this past summer. The 3rd signee is a local player, Logan Kim who is ranked 4th in California Junior golf.
Rachel Heck still seems to be on the mend. She didn't play in any fall tournaments and just played in Santiago at the Pan Am games. She shot a +8 over 4 rounds and finished in 14th. Her scores were 78-70-71-77. Brooke Seay didn't played a round in the fall and . The Pac-12 preview is set for mid-February in Hawaii. We'll get a better idea of Rachel and Sadie's play and if Seay is back. but the the lower classmen have been doing great led by Sampedro, Xu and Ganne. For many of us wondering if Angelina Ye was every going to play like her frosh year. She graduated last spring and won her first pro tournament in China last month. She won the 2023 Women's China Open.
As mentioned in an earlier thread, Walker has a solid class coming in next year as she has to replace Seay, Englemann, and Heck. She has 3 Euros coming in along with America Leigh Chien. Their WAGR rankings are 10, 31, 38 and 99. Meja Örtengren and Nora Sundberg are both Swedish and Andrea Revuelta is from Spain. All four competed in the PING Junior Solheim Cup and Junior Ryder Cup.

The Peacock NFL playoff game

I don't know if this was discussed on here, but it seems worthy of discussion. First of all, it has been reported that there were 23M streams of Dolphins-Chiefs Wild Card game. Has anyone seen these numbers?

How many subscribers Peacock had before the game and how many it had a couple days after? How many net new subscribers did Peacock get? Peacock reportedly paid $110M for the rights to make the game premium, so it would have needed to generate 18M months of subscriptions to break even.

Speaking for myself, we got a Peacock premium sub from our Instacart membership, so though I created a Peacock account to activate this already paid for subscription to watch the game, we can't count as a new subscriber as a result of that game, because we already had it. And, two of my friends who watched the game already had Peacock, so I wonder how many new subs they actually got.

Zombie Sports Illustrated Lays Off All Employees

The short version is: Zombie SI’s *awful* management couldn't pay the licensing fees for, uh, publishing material under the Sports Illustrated brand (which… hang on, they have to LICENSE that????)

And of course their whole business model is “trick people into reading low-quality and sometimes AI-generated crap because it has the Sports Illustrated name attached,” which will no longer work without the name.

On the one hand, this is depressing. On the other, here’s hoping the next entity that licenses the brand, uh, embodies some sort of ethos other than “an entity that’s licensing a brand,” I guess?

She Could Help...

the new coach someday. (Probably a little too Christian for Stanford and the Bay Area, though.)

Long, fascinating story with several themes.

Ben

When I attempt to log on to the Farm Report, not infrequently, instead of it coming up, I get one of the following messages: either "The page isn't redirecting properly" or "403 - forbidden".

Whats going on?

Is the problem on my end or yours. I tend to think your end, since I don't have the problem when I log on to any other website.

After anywhere from an hour or two to a day, I can log on successfully. Still, a bit annoying.

So, what's going on?

Anyone else having this problem? If not, I suppose that points to it being on my end.

Basketball Fans wanted - WSU and beyond

Hey everyone, there are 7 more home games. On paper every one of them is winnable, especially since the top 2 P12 teams in Ken Pom and NET ranking have already been slain!

I've had season tix for 25 years, so I've seen highs and lows at Maples. I was at Utah game yesterday and the atmosphere was ... improved! Lots of fun moments (Carlyle put back dunk, Raynaud back to back blocks with Mutumbo finger wag swagger, Spencer Jones spread eagle floor burn) and they are so much better when the fans are there and engaged in the action.

Obviously CSR alone cannot deliver a full house, but hey gotta start somewhere, so if any of you are on the fence please join me attending games in person! Circle the dates, buy the tix - WHAT A BARGAIN - and join in the fun. And tell a friend!

Upcoming home games:
Thurs 1/18 8PM - WSU (Pac 2 farewell, Kyle Smith scouting)
Sat 1/20 6PM - UW (their only wins in P12 so far are home games vs OSU and ASU, just lost to awful UCLA team)
Weds 2/7 6PM - UCLA (going for first 2 game season sweep since Trent's first season)
Sat 2/10 TBD - USC (strong chance Lebron will be there - Lakers home game night prior and nothing again til 2/13)
Thurs 2/22 8PM - Oregon (let's just beat these smug effers)
Sat 2/24 2PM - OSU (trap game - gotta get this one, hopefully by 20)
Thurs 3/7 TBD - Cal (Mad Dog homecoming, team on rise needs to be put in their rightful weenie place)

Let's go Cardinal!
