Football Roster Updated with Number Changes

Personnel-wise, at least:
  • All transfers and frosh are now on the roster. The transfers were "announced as signed" today.
  • Academic class years have been updated. Not sure what differentiates "Fifth Year" from "Graduate Student" but oh well. Interestingly, the transfers who redshirted are properly noted as such while our homegrown players are not.
  • All coaches now have their correct titles.
  • As mentioned by Ben, Allen Thomason is no longer on the roster - he's the only one AFAICT.
  • Certain changed positions have not been updated, and weights obviously haven't as well. That should be in August at the end of camp.

Football Recruiting Stanford Football recruiting notes: June

Welcome to the Stanford football recruiting notes thread for June. Official visits are in full swing this weekend with more to come later in the month. So we're starting this thread in the middle of a busy time! If you missed anything from the May recruiting thread, click here to check that out. It looks like at least a couple of guys have already committed from the visit and possibly more to follow. Hopefully more than two!

To check out the list of visitors, click here. As a reminder, feel free to check the box that shows unofficial visits to get an even clearer picture of the visits, but the visits happening this weekend are of the official visit variety. As I am made aware of visitors, I add them to the list. And then for offers/commits list, click here to check that out in case you want to catch a refresher on that.

Three four stars are visiting this weekend: quarterback Luke Fahey, running back Rylan Morris (Baylor commit), and offensive tackle John Turntine III. A tweet from Malcolm Agnew suggests they landed a running back and Morris is the only running back I have listed as visiting this weekend, so that ups the odds it's him. Fahey I caught up with earlier in the week and published the article. So make sure to read that in case you haven't already done so (click on his profile and you'll see the article linked to it). I got a Future Cast in for Fahey and continue to feel good about it. I need to get more of a feel for Turntine, but the fact that he is visiting is obviously encouraging though I should note, there are multiple FutureCasts in, a couple of them recent, for Texas. So, the Longhorns do seem to be the front runners for him right now.

That's all I got right now. I'll do my best to reach out to as many recruits as possible about the weekend and get a feel from guys. Obviously more visits coming next weekend and then the weekend of the 20th. So, those are the two weekends they have set up right now. Nobody visiting over finals week, which makes sense.

I will add this: Andrew Luck is very much involved in the recruiting side and from all the recruits I've been talking to, that is something that they are really enjoying. At the end of the day, Luck's most important job I think is the recruiting. I think that more than anything is why he was brought in. Having him as the face of the program adds credibility and sends a message that Stanford is in it to win it. That's something that I think was a major question mark from recruits in the past. Just how committed is Stanford? By having Luck as their GM and involved on the ground, I think it's clear to recruits that Stanford is serious about winning and that's something that matters a lot to them.

Basketball Recruiting Stanford MBB recruiting notes: June

Welcome to a new men's basketball recruiting notes thread for the month of June. If you missed anything from May, click here.

Stanford has four incoming freshmen: Belgian power forward Oskar Giltay, Seattle guard Jaylen Petty, Brewster Academy guard Ebuka Okorie, and Latvian stretch forward Kristers Skrinda. They also have added a pair of transfers in AJ Rohosy and Jeremy Dent-Smith. Click on their profiles to read more about them in case you missed any of my write ups.

Suffice to say, Stanford is going to be a very different looking team next season, but on the whole, I'd say they've restocked well. Not necessarily for immediate success next season, but long-term. I think the freshmen they've added all have a lot of potential to be good down the road and hey, maybe one or two will surprise and make an immediate impact. Jeremy Dent-Smith will be interesting to follow. Coming up from the Division II level where he was excellent. It'll be fun to see how the adjustment goes for him.

What Does Being Back Look Like?

I'm curious what this group needs to see to consider Stanford Football "Back".

Clearly there is a long ways to go. A winning season would be a start. Getting to a Bowl game. Landing a 5-star recruit. Being ranked in the top 25. 8+ wins in a season, etc.

Personally, I need to see a 10-win season to declare that Stanford Football is fully back. Shooting too high, or not high enough?

Katie Meyer

I just watched ESPN’s The Katie Meyer Story,
A real bummer. I love Stanford, my dad was a law student and I spent my first year and a half at Escondido Village. Attended my first football game as a child in 1969. I was hooked. Did not attend Stanford (SJSU) but my allegiance has always been Stanford. I was a Stanford employee from 1998 to 2013, many departments including working for Gerhard Casper in the President’s Office to the Stanford Athletics Marketing Department. I was living my dream. However Stanford is a bureaucracy and not always rosy. Shit does happen and a-holes are assigned positions of power. I indeed came across some absolute dickheads in the AD as well as the office of development. Stanford does (in my experience) err on the side of those with seniority over the rank and file. Katie Meyer did not have representation, she was young and impressionable and felt the weight of the Stanford bureaucracy closing in and felt as though everything she worked for was over. My issues with Stanford OOD occurred when I was in my forty’s and I was not impressionable. I left OOD after fighting the power for months. Less than a year after I left, the manager I had issues with was dismissed for abusing her subordinates which was my issue with her. Stanford is not immune from missteps. Many an influential a-hole has a Stanford degree.

Basketball Recruiting Stanford WBB recruiting notes: June

Welcome to the Stanford women's basketball recruiting notes for June. If you missed anything from May, check out the May recruiting thread here.

First off, On3 keeps track of women's basketball offers, so check out the Stanford women's basketball offers list here. Nice find, @akhockey7! I can just link to that in every recruiting thread going forward. It's not all the offers, but it's at least a good chunk of them. I know their commit list doesn't include everybody. But hey, at least it's something!

Right now, Stanford is bringing in a talented freshman class consisting of McDonald's All-Americans center Alex Eschmeyer, forward Lara Somfai and point guard Hailee Swain. Forward Nora Ezike and wing Carly Amborn round out the class as four-star talents who did not make the cut for McDonald's All-American. Top five class in the nation. My write up on the class is here in case you want a refresher on the group.

Additional girls I have on the offers 2026 list that I didn't see on the On3 list were 5-star small forward Addison Bjorn, 4-star point guard Devin Cosgriff, and 4-star point guard Atlee Vanesko. The one name that is on their list that I didn't have is 2026 5-star power forward Oliviyah Edwards. So I've made note of her.

As for 2027: 5-star Small forward Jordyn Palmer who is on On3's list, I didn't have. So I've added her to the list that I keep. The one that they didn't have is 4-star small forward Madeline Mignery.

Finally, 2028: On3 has nothing on the 2028 class. Stanford has a commit in 4-star guard Jhaliana Guy and they're also on 3-star forward Amy Nduka.

That's what I got. As usual, I'm sure @Bobbk will correct me on some things. :)

Baseball ACC at the NCAA Baseball Tournament

Well, it makes me feel a little bit better seeing how dominant the ACC has been in the NCAA tournament. https://www.ncaa.com/brackets/baseball/d1/2025

Qualified for Super Regional
Louisville went 3-0, including beating #1 Vanderbilt, on its way to the Super Regional.
Florida State went 3-0, on its way to the Super Regional.
Duke went 3-0, including beating #7 Georgia, on its way to a Super Regional.

Playing Today for a Spot
UNC playing Oklahoma for a spot in the Super Regional
Miami is playing Southern Miss for a spot in the Super Regional.
Wake Forest is playing Tennessee for a spot in the Super Regional after beating them yesterday to force a final game.

Eliminated
NC State had a strong run but ultimately lost in the final game to #4 Auburn
Clemson was the most disappointing and eliminated in 3 games
Georgia Tech played okay but lost to #11 Ole Miss.

Conferences in Super Regionals
ACC - 3 (with a potential of up to 6)
SEC - 2 (with a potential of up to 6)
B12 - 2
B1G - 1

Lot hinges on these last couple games, but either way this tournament has to feel like a failure for the SEC who talked all year about how great they were going to be. Texas and Vanderbilt both losing hurt.

B1G is really going to struggle moving forward, hard to imagine how they recruit baseball players.

ACC has been by far the best performer so far, but that could change after today's games. Wake Forest vs Tennessee and UNC vs Oklahoma will be very very good games if you want to tune in.

Football Strength and Conditioning

S&C was a calling card of Stanford Football during the Golden Era. Turley had a program that emphasized functional strength, resulting in peak performance on the field and extremely low injury rates.

Things haven't been as strong in this department in recent years. Stewart Mandel detailed how Turleys intensive "Taking the Rope" drill was shut down by administrators and Shaw in 2017, on of many signs that Stanfords identity of toughness was deteriorating. Turley of course was gone a year later, for a behavioral incident which some here may know varying levels of detail about.

I stumbled upon a video of BYU's strength and conditioning work this offseason. It looks very intense:

Right now the strength coach is Ryan Deatrick, in his second season from Sac State, a TT hire obviously. His experience is below, hopefully he is building a monster with this team, because we have looked physically overmatched many times on the field in recent years.
