Big Game Week Activities?

Once upon a time, Bug Game was a major event on campus and in the community.

Are there any of the traditional (or new) activities still in existence? Bearial? Big Sing? Gaieties? Was Gaieties and its ribald and otherwise un-PC dialogue deemed inappropriate or triggering?

Is there still a Guardsman lunch or Bond Club lunch? Does the Weenie band roam around SF?

Sad to think one of the things that made the Bay Area unique has died on the vine.

Football Stanford wins controversial Ink Bowl 36-31

Alrighty, I got the inside scoop on this year's Ink Bowl, played between The Daily Californian and The Stanford Daily newspapers. Stanford won 36-31. Stanford scored a touchdown with 20 seconds left to take the lead. On the following possession, Cal was tackled and the Stanford defense held onto the runner's legs a long time to stall. Cal felt like there was like seven seconds left on the clock or so, but the Stanford timekeeper said time had expired. So, a bit of a controversial finish. But yes, they still play it.

Football Injury report for Big Game

Ok, here are the key notes from the dress/dress only list:

OLB Aaron Armitage, RB Casey Filkins and TE CJ Hawkins are dress only/inactive. They will not play.

QB Ashton Daniels, DB Jimmy Wyrick, OLB David Bailey, RB Ryan Butler, OG Simi Pale and DB Scotty Edwards will all dress and are listed as “active.”

The following are presently not listed as “active” but are next in line to be activated should any one of the active guys be switched to dress only/inactive. Those guys are the following:

DB Alaka’i Gilman, WR John Humphreys, RB Sedrick Irvin, and TE Benjamin Yurosek.

Of the guys who are listed as “active” I expect Daniels, Bailey, and Butler to play for sure. Edwards I expect will be a go as well. Pale and Wyrick, we’ll see. They’ve been listed as active before only to not play. I would actually be more surprised if they played than if they didn’t play but since they aren’t listed as “inactive” there is a theoretical chance they play.

Of the group who is in line to be activated should anyone be moved to inactive, I do think we’ll see Gilman and Irvin. I would be shocked if we saw Humphreys and I would be surprised but not shocked if we saw Yurosek. I don’t expect either Yurosek or Humphreys to play, but if you told me one of the two does play, I would guess Yurosek for sure.

Everyone else of consequence or importance on the team you can assume is active and ready to go.

Big Game “Sold Out”

Big Game is sold out, per Stanford.

What it appears Stanford now does is sell off all remaining inventory to StubHub 48 hours before the game and let StubHub handle all final sales.
Currently there are 671 listings for Big Game, many with 8+ seats together.
Overall it looks like there are 3-4K seats for sale on StubHub, with the majority from Stanford directly.

Regardless, I’m happy with what should be a full stadium, even if a healthy chunk of those people are Kal fans hungry for another win against our down program.

Other new aspects of Stanford tickets this year: you can easily post your season tickets directly to StubHub via the Stanford app and it is a bit more cumbersome to transfer tickets to friends & family (it used to be a simple screenshot of a barcode, now you have to transfer via StubHub.

OT: does anybody have Larry Scott's email address?

I need it for Reasons(tm).

To be clear: I'm not joking! I really do need it, and I'll happily explain why if anyone wants to slide into my DMs. I *promise* I'm not gonna send any angry emails about the Pac-12. :D (I also promise I'm not trying to scam him or send him a sales pitch or a crank manifesto or do any networking.)

Anyway, I know the odds are very low, but we DO have some INSANELY well-connected posters on this board, so... nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Platz Book - History of Stanford Football

John Platz's recently released book, The History of Stanford Football, is now available at the Stanford Bookstore. The book is 420 pages, with 165 photos, and covers the history from 1892 - 2022. (At the end of the book, there's a list of the author's top 50 Stanford Football games of all-time.)

The Bookstore currently has copies on the shelves in the Stanford Authors section. If you don't see copies, ask an employee, as there are additional copies being stored. Unfortunately, online ordering is not a current option.

I've quickly glanced at the book, and will buy one the next time I'm on campus! (I'm no JR with a full Stanford archive, but I love my Stanford memorabilia!)

Basketball Recruiting WBB recruiting notes: November

The women's basketball recruiting notes thread for November is here. If you missed any news in the October thread, click here. Over the weekend, 2025 guard/wing Caryl Amborn joined 5-star point guard Hailee Swain as the second commit for the Cardinal in the 2025 class. I created a separate thread for that, but in case you missed that, now you know.

The early signing period will begin this Wednesday. As 2024 recruits sign, I'll add those in here. The 2024 commits expected to sign are 4-star point guard Shay Ijiwoye and 4-star forward Kennedy Umeh, who have both verbally committed.

Figured I should also make sure Golden Bear Report content is being received on this board as well. So, if anyone is interested in content from the Cal side, just click here. It's a link to the football tab on Golden Bear Report.
