OT: Different type of five star

Usually really high academic students like those winning prestigious awards involve top schools trying to get them to attend. Other than this stud applying and getting admitted to a ton of schools, doesn’t mention if he’s done anything exceptional, although he’s only 16!
“A high school senior in Louisiana has received more than 170 college acceptance letters and more than $9 million in scholarship offers.”

7,000 combined rushing and receiving yards in a career

Darrin Nelson, Stanford — 1978-1981

Stanford Athletics
Darrin Nelson

At Stanford, Nelson was on the team that first popularized the West Coast offense, carving out a new role for running backs. He became the first player to rush for 1,000 yards and catch 50 passes in a season. Then he did it two more times.

All that led to Nelson finishing his career with 4,442 yards rushing, and 2,550 yards receiving for a grand total of 7,001 yards. It helped to have John Elway throwing the ball.

That record should be safe for a long time. The runner-up in combined rushing and receiving yards is Steve Bartolo of Colorado State, who had 5,892 total yards (4,813 yards rushing and 1,079 receiving) from 1983-86.

New Commit 2023 RB/OF/RHP Caleb Hampton

Caleb Hampton just announced on Twitter that he has committed to Stanford. He is a dual sport commit for both football and baseball as a running back, outfielder, and right-handed pitcher. Mentioned in the recruiting notes thread that I thought Stanford had good chances and he came through for the Cardinal.
