The football program posted this on Facebook yesterday:
"A team so deep, we had to make
✌ posters. Free for all fans at the Cardinal and White Spring Game, with team autograph session to follow.
Come cheer and meet our players Saturday at 1pm at Cagan Stadium.#CWSG17 #GoStanford"
The posters that followed featured the following players:
Offense poster: Dalton Schultz, David Bright, Keller Chryst, Bryce Love, Trenton Irwin
Defense poster: Kevin Palma, Harrison Phillips, Peter Kalambayi, Quenton Meeks, Justin Reid
It's just a poster but I wonder if it might indicate current thinking on star players/leaders and maybe even a leading indicator for some position battles. For instance, maybe Chryst has a pretty firm lead in the program's mind over Burns and Costello despite the injury rehab; maybe speculation of Palma's depth chart demise (talk of Alfieri and Okereke as the starting inside linebackers) is premature.
The eye-popping omission to me is Alfieri. He is our only non-specialist all-conference player who wasn't included. I guess seniority deference went to (never all-conference) Kalambayi. I understand deference to seniority to a degree but with exercises like this you'd want to try to anticipate who might emerge as true national stars. I think Alfieri joins Phillips and the DBs as our candidates for national stardom this year.
