The recruiting process for Connor Wedington has ended with the Sumner, Wash. athlete committing to Stanford. For months Wedington was committed to Washington, but Stanford stayed in contact with Wedington and when he was admitted he de-committed and started taking visits to find a new college choice.

He talked about that decision here: http://www.seattletimes.com/sports/...trend-of-football-players-opting-to-decommit/

Washington was included in his top five, along with Baylor, Notre Dame, UCLA, and, of course, Stanford. But the Cardinal were the favorite as soon as Wedington was admitted and left the Washington class.

Perhaps because of how early Wedington committed to Washington his value as a recruit didn't fully materialize for a long time. That changed when he put together a stellar senior season. He was The Seattle Times all-state player, gaining 2,048 all-purpose yards with 19 rushing touchdowns. He is now ranked as the No. 155 overall recruit on Rivals and No. 3 prospect in Washington.

Wedington's commitment gives Stanford the No. 1 (Foster Sarell) and No.3 prospects out of Washington. It's Stanford's most successful foray in Husky and Cougar territory since 2012, when the Cardinal landed Joshua Garnett and Michael Rector. And to do it during Washington's best season since 2000-2001 adds to the level of difficulty and almost certainly the frustration of one of Stanford's division rivals.

Wedington's versatility gives Stanford the ability to use him as a traditional running back and a receiver as well. But regardless of how he gets the ball, the dynamic athleticism he will bring to the offense should give the Cardinal a boost, perhaps sooner rather than later.
