Stanford needs to do a lot more to improve game day attendance.
It is not as if other California schools don't have the same problem. The Raiders are leaving. Our game at UCLA was awash in empty seats in the enormous Rose Bowl, despite the fact that there are maybe 3 times as many UCLA grads within 100 miles of Pasadena as there are Alabama fans within 100 miles of Tuscaloosa, not to mention that there are more Stanford grads within 100 miles of Pasadena than there are within 100 miles of Stanford. Cal and UCLA have problems as well. San Jose State, of course, is helpless.
There have been plenty of ideas floated around in the past. I don't want to go over those again at this point. But I think it needs to be a focus for David Shaw and Bernard Muir. Otherwise, things will just bump along as before.
Got a Block S survey a couple of weeks ago and I returned it saying football attendance was the #1 problem.
I hope we can get the Department to find real solutions to this issue.
