The Cardinal practiced on campus Thursday and it was seven months to the day after their last practice at Stanford. I spoke with Tara VanDerveer about getting the ball rolling again and the excitement around the program for this season. Even though Stanford has sustained some unexpected roster attrition since last season, it's still a deep team because of the quality of the players who are available.

According to VanDerveer, Jenna Brown is out for the season due to an unspecified surgery. As many of you probably know, Maya Dodson has opted out of the season. When you add in that DiJonai Carrington and Estella Moschkau transferred then Stanford has 12 active players right now. There wasn't a hint of concern in VanDerveer's voice when she talked about the depth of the team because those 12 players are versatile and talented. Haley Jones alone eases many of the concerns people may have about the personnel losses.
