My undergrad alma mater, famous for Project Censored, deceased NFL Hall of Fame OL Larry Allen, and the Green Music Center, is facing financial devastation. And among other things, is eliminating my undergrad minor, Economics.
Is this an example of more young people not wanting to attend a 4-year college because the value of the degree vs. the cost of getting one, doesn't make financial sense anymore? Will more colleges and universities be facing similar concerns? I used my six years as an undergrad to educate myself about the world, taking all kinds of different classes, and wasn't too concerned about such calculations because it didn't cost that much - compared to today - in the early 1990s to get an undergrad degree.
I know from experience sports and recreation were funded by student fees, so if enrollment goes down 38% in a few years, ya, that is gonna crunch some budgets. I'm guessing Recreational Sports will remain because giving students things to do on campus is part of recruiting them.
