I play in a rec league in Menlo Park. Have had a team now for roughly 6 years. A few of us older guys in our 40s mixed with some young talent to keep us competitive.
We have a young big man on the team who works at the Stanford gym. We only have 6 so about 30 minutes before tipoff he calls me and asks if he can bring “a point guard”
I always like to have 7 guys so I say “sure.”
He shows up with Roy Yuan, who ends up scoring half our points (shooting over the top of a 2-3 zone) as we pulled away for an easy win.
I asked Roy about Stanford hoops. He said the new coach has a great track record and isn’t nearly as “nice” as Haase. Also that last season they had all the pieces and talent to be good and it just didn’t work out. So nothing terribly noteworthy.
He’s currently job hunting, looking for ML engineering roles. Hopefully he’ll play with us again. Super nice, mellow guy who is a legit hooper.
