In a couple of posts over the weekend, I alluded to a conversation I had Friday with some members of the team. Here are some random morsels for your enjoyment... maybe to tide you over until camp starts in August, or, God forbid, we get a recruit commit!
Nothing earth shattering here:
- QB competition: Damn close and they both look good. Either one can run the offense well.
- Team is focused. Don't want a NW repeat. Said all the right things about preparation leading into week 1 last year. team is taking it to heart this year and doing the right things (so far).
- BCS. That's the goal the team has set for itself.
- the most ridiculous array of offensive talent, possibly ever, at Stanford. will be hard to get them all the touches they deserve.
- Offensive team leader: Mac. Defensive: Solly (no surprise)
- O line is communicating well and focused on getting a rhythm together. They realize replacing Murph and Garnett will be hard and they need to be a "unit" to succeed this season.
- Trent Irwin hasn't dropped a pass all spring/summer. Best route runner and hands they've ever seen.
- Curtis Robinson is another freak athlete, but undersized right now. He goes hard all the time. They are looking forward to seeing if he maintains the same gear when the pads are on.
- Thomas is virtually unblockable. Phillips is looking great too. (will be ready to go game 1). Jackson is another player. Kamatule is all world when he's angry (problem is, he's not angry often enough).
- collection of athletes is at an all time high. If you take out Mac, the best athletes are probably in the secondary (surprised me... I would have expected Love)
- NFL guys come back and tell the current players all the time "you'll never have a locker room [of guys] like this every again. Enjoy it."
- Last year on short yardage, opponent's D lines often just gave in and didn't put up a fight.
- U$C’s ginormous lineman could never handle the required stamina and mental fortitude of a Stanford workout. They said during games a couple of the larger OL at U$C get carted from the field to the locker room. Stanford OL has the hardest workouts. Bloom's philosophy is that the success of Stanford's program begins with the OL so they have to be the toughest.
