SJ M-N reports on an hourlong meeting between Stanford administrators including President Marc Tessier-Lavigne and 36 Sports Strong, the group trying to save the cut programs. Muir and a few others were in the call. A special board meeting will be called to review the decision.
A petition to rescind the decision was submitted.
”Some of the famous alumni supporting the group are Andrew Luck, Keri Walsh Jennings and Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J).
Other prestigious athletics who have signed the petition are Jennifer Azzi (basketball), Tony Azevedo (water polo), Bob and Mike Bryan (tennis), Julie Foudy (soccer), Jessica Mendoza (softball), Mike Messina (baseball), Jordan Morris (soccer), Summer Sanders (swimming), Keri Strug (gymnastics) and professional golfer Michelle Wie, a Stanford graduate.”
The group said over $30M was pledged. I know wrestling had pledges of $12M. That’s 18M$ for the other 10 sports and I’m guessing that V’ball is a major chunk of it.
