With the football team not likely to spread joy this fall, was really hoping the Giants would make the playoffs. But then you watch a game like tonight and think “this team just flat stinks.” Rodon probably can’t wait to get traded.
Think about these things:
The lone Giant All Star is a slow outfielder with a noodle arm (did you see that play where Dodger scored from first on a 2-out double down the LF line?). That was about a HS level play in terms of getting to the ball and hitting the cutoff man (Joc bounced it to the SS!).
But hey, at least he can catch fly balls – unlike the RF (Gonzalez) who with 2 outs and 2 runners on let a can of corn drop for a 2-RBI double. The Dodgers scored another run with a 2-out hit after that. Pathetic. I was pissed for Rodon.
Meanwhile, Giants have bases loaded and one-out, up 6-5. Slater gets into 0-2 hole then grounds to 3B for a force out at home (at least he hit it reasonably hard; and beat the DP throw to first . . . barely). Of course, 2 outs, bases still juiced, and Joey Bart whiffs on 4 pitches (swing and miss 3 of them).
Meanwhile, Dodgers down 6-5 score with clutch hits (a double and a triple – the latter with 2 outs). Then Garcia (who was awful tonight) walks a batter for first and third. Then Mookie does his thing with a 3-run jimmy jack with 2 outs and the game still close at 6-5. Thanks for coming; drive home safely . . . well at least for those Dodgers fans who stuck around till the 8th inning (I’d say about ½ the sellout crowd).
The above doesn’t even include 2 Giants throwing errors. Good grief.
Dodgers = good fielders and clutch hitting
Giants = NOT.
