for all the disappointment various posters, including me, have expressed about david shaw's play-calling while up by a few points late in the game, i would put mario cristobal's decision to call an undisguised pass by the punter on 4th down as much worse. as the announcers commented repeatedly, it's hard to know what to call the play: it wasn't a fake punt, as half the line shifted wide pre-snap to telegraph the play - and to allow msu to blitz 2 completely unblocked. it was a pass without protection by the punter instead of by one of the top qb's in the country
