For those than haven't heard yet, Notre Dame just announced they're playing host to Cal in 2022 for the first time in 55 years. While there have been no other games announced between the two schools as of yet, this is significant for two reasons:
#1 - I've heard rumblings that Notre Dame is looking to replace Stanford with another California-based school. This announcement certainly adds a bit more credibility to those rumors. Not saying I think it's going to happen but definitely something to keep an eye on.
#2 - The timing is not insignificant. Cal is scheduled to play at Notre Dame in an even year, concurrent with Stanford's home/away cycle. While Stanford's agreement with Notre Dame runs through the end of 2024, the Irish could start a new series with Cal in 2025, starting with an away game at Berkeley that would slot in perfectly where Stanford left off.
