This offer was discussed in the recruiting notes thread, but I wanted to provide some information about the offer to 2020 running Mike Drennen II. Stanford is still a strong contender for EJ Smith and Kalel Mullings, but a source today acknowledged that Stanford is guarding against how difficult it will be to get both Top 100 recruits.
This isn't exactly a case of taking the first two who will jump and shut the door after that. Smith and Drennen are both capable of playing wide receiver. Drennen describes himself as a "RB/slot" in his Twitter bio. I was told when Smith was offered he's in the Connor Wedington mold of someone the staff would feel comfortable with at either spot. I heard today that Drennen fits that description even better.
And keep in mind that Smith has some work to do, although I don't believe it's the level that requires lighting candles at church. (That's what my mom did for a couple of my classes.)
Here are Drennen's junior highlights.
