Alright, here is the men's basketball and women's basketball recruiting notes thread for July. The June recruiting notes thread is here.
July started off nicely on the hoops recruiting front as women's basketball landed 2025 point guard Hailee Swain. My write up on that is here in case you didn't yet see that. She's supposed to be the real deal. Very exciting prospect for the program to land. It's a bit funny they have a 2025 commit on board before a 2024 commit.
Touching quickly on the women's hoops front, Juju Watkins and Delaney Thomas are still in the mix, being recruited by Stanford. Morgan Cheli is the most recent 2024 offer I've seen come through on their side. The 2023 class is in solid shape with Courtney Ogden and Nunu Agara committed for 2023. Just a matter of bolstering things by getting Watkins and/or Thomas.
On the men's hoops front, Stanford does seem eager to land at least one big in the 2023 cycle. They recently offered 4-star power forward Carey Booth, 3-star power forward Bron Roberts out of Orem, Utah is still sitting on just two offers from Stanford and Southern Utah. He's likely waiting to see if Utah and/or BYU offer. If they do, then they'll be real factors. But for now, they haven't. 4-star power forward T.J. Power is another one they've recently offered. Then there's power forward Mitchell Holmes. Listed at 6'8, 175 pounds, he's grown a bit. Also has an offer from TCU as well.
And then last, but not least on the big man front is 4-star center Carter Lang. He visited last fall and hopes to get out on an official visit this upcoming fall. I feel like Stanford is in a good spot with him. Note: Lang is the kid whose photo is on the front page in the Bucks jersey.
On the guard front, Stanford already has one committed in 2023 and it's a good one: Kanaan Carlyle. 5-star kid who just played for USA Basketball in Mexico helping them win a gold in their FIBA Americas event down there. Other point guards who could join him in the 2023 class are Dalen Davis out of Chicago and Jacobe Johnson, who also as you all should know, is being recruited in football as well. He took his official visit at the end of last month and visited with Jerod Haase and his staff. So, he'd be a nice get because (A) He can legitimately play and (B) He would be on a football scholarship, not counting against the hoops scholarship count.
As far as wings are concerned, 4-star shooting guard Wesley Yates is a top target and feels like one they should be able to get since he's a Texas kid who has a good relationship with Harrison Ingram. 4-star small forward Andrej Stojakovic took an official visit to Stanford at the beginning of June, but all signs point to UCLA. I just put a FutureCast in for UCLA. Purely on the grounds that UCLA hired Ivo Simovic as an assistant coach, who is tight with Peja's dad going back to their days in Serbia. That one's obvious.
4-star small forward Keanu Dawes remains a key target. Latest I heard from him, they haven't set up an official visit yet, but I'll keep checking in. 4-star shooting guard Reid Ducharme is another one to keep an eye on. High academic kid with offers from Brown, Harvard, and Northwestern on top of Stanford. Pretty lightly recruited for a 4-star. Just 12 posted offers on his profile.
Jaime Kasier, Jr. is a 3-star shooting guard who they offered recently. Right around the same time as Carter Lang. He's also a Virginia kid and they know each other. So maybe that relationship can pay off and Stanford can land both as sort of package. A FutureCast is in for Maryland, but that was put back in mid-June before Stanford offered. So there's at least some hope that it's not a for sure thing to Maryland.
Nolan Winter is a small forward they are on out of Lakeville, Minnesota. However, a recent FutureCast in to the Gophers was just put in on Sunday. So, it's quite possible he ends up staying close to home and plays for the Gophers.
4-star shooting guard Marvel Allen is technically on the open market as he re-opened his recruitment after committing to LSU. He re-opened things in the spring. But, Stanford is not listed among the group of major contenders to land him, so it's unlikely there's any traction there. I can check, but he doesn't appear to be serious target at this point. Just for those that are wondering about him.
As for 2024, the following kids have been offered: 5-star point guard Jase Richardson, 4-star shooting guard Liam Campbell, 5-star small forward Jason Asemota, and 4-star small forward Liam McNeeley. One kid who popped up in our database as having an offer is 2024 4-star win Zion Sensley out of Prolific Prep in Napa. He didn't announce an offer and none of the current coaches follow him on Twitter, so I'm suspecting that he hasn't been offered, but I'll check and confirm.
Lastly, Stanford has two 2025 offers out: Small forward Nikolas Khamenia, who balled out at Stanford's summer camp last month. BTI Hoops/Harvard Westlake kid. And then Koa Peat, who they've been on for a little while now. Out of Perry High School in Gilbert, AZ.
So, that's where things sit on the hoops front. I believe I covered everyone of note. But of course, if there's anyone I missed, by all means comment below and I'll follow up.
