Hey guys, I just caught up with 2023 4-star cornerback Jordan Matthews about his official visit to Stanford. He told me he's been admitted. Below are key quotes. The rest will be saved for the article.
On the visit as a whole: "It was pretty good overall. Stanford has hoped on pretty hard in the last few months. They’ve impressed me with their academics and what I could do with athletics and academics. The great connections and experiences I had there. I could see myself living there and it being personally impactful with my personal branding."
On Duane Akina: "I’ve been impressed with Coach Akina from the start. His resume speaks very loudly. He was at Arizona, Texas, and now Stanford. To name a few, he’s coached Paulson Adebo, Justin Reid, Kenny Vaccaro, and Earl Thomas. The list goes on and he’s a great guy. To see my vibe around him in the school, I liked it very much and it was a great experience."
On what Stanford likes about his game: "I play good in press-man and Coach Akina is looking for a guy who is long, fast, and is great in press-man and physical. For a guy to guard the number one receiver week in and week out."
On getting to know Nic Toomer: "My player-host was Nic Toomer. He’s a guy I got to spend a lot of time with. I walked around the campus with him. He gave me a lot of feedback about picking a school and even if I don’t pick Stanford that he’ll maintain a relationship with me and that I could be successful at Stanford."
On a decision timeline: "I’m still open in my process of recruiting. I haven’t decided on a date. I want to keep things open until I finish deciding on a school."
On applying to Stanford: "I did apply and I got accepted. That kinda certified me in the academics. If a school cannot provide a good education, why would I go to that school? I want a life after football and a great education under my belt so I can go into whatever avenue I want to."
