I found it interesting that Stanford was the home team against Binghamton, UCSB, and in the last two games against Texas State, but was the visitor in the first game against Texas State. I posted a question on a previous thread about how this is determined and didn't get a definitive answer. I scoured the internet (well, I at least searched the internet), and still could not find the answer. Finally, I had my CEO ask his kid who played in the CWS with UCSB and found out that they do a coin toss before each game.
We were very fortunate to bat second in game seven. At the very least, it led to one of the most exciting finishes I have seen. Maybe it would have made a difference in game three - who knows - but it is fascinating how a simple coin toss affects the outcome of a game.
Just for Gary's enjoyment, I will point out that we are fortunate that David Shaw is not our basebal coach. Can you imagine winning the coin toss and electing to bat first!
