It's time for one of my favorite threads of the year, keeping tabs on and discussing the on-field exploits of future Stanford football players. Action started this weekend. Here's what happened for our commits who were in action:

Oaks Christian beat (Michael Wilson-less) Chaminade 31-13. It was a one score game through three quarters before Oaks Christian pulled away. Bryce Farrell had 5 catches for 74 yards. The star was Michigan commit Zach Charbonnet who had 185 yards and 3 touchdowns, including two 50+ yarders in the second half, on only 17 carries. Arguable top player in the country Kayvon Thibodeaux had a sack and constant pressure to do a great job bottling up fellow power Chaminade. Cal commit Blake Antzoulatos had 9 tackles and an impressive 3 tackles for loss for Chaminade. Here's an interview with Farrell:

San Ramon Valley routed Heritage 56-7. Tristan Sinclair caught a 30 yard touchdown pass as part of a 28-0 first quarter.

Trinity crossed into Indiana and fell to Carmel 24-21 in a heartbreaker that broke a 30 game winning streak. Stephen Herron and the defense couldn't stop Carmel from marching down the field in the final two minutes of the game and scoring the winning touchdown with 28 seconds left. The defense was relatively stingy in general, giving up 182 yards on the game (only 61 on the ground). One of the Carmel touchdowns came on defense. While those who like to check out prospects in the opponent highlights can key in on #7 in green and white in this highlight, you'll get a much better chance to see Herron in action on ESPN on Friday night as part of a double-header of keen interest for Stanford recruitniks. The second half of the double-header is Mater Dei vs. Bishop Gorman, aka Kyu Kelly showing what he can do against as good of a football team/passing game challenge as you'll find short of college football.

St. John Bosco hosted Utah power Timpview under much pomp and circumstance to celebrate their first game on campus in four years in their brand new $7.2 million stadium. It was utter domination by St. John Bosco, a 49-0 romp. 42 of the points came in the first half. George Holani had 117 yards rushing as the first option in a triple threat rushing attack. As was the case last year, Colby Bowman so far appears to be the second banana receiver to Jake Bailey, who had a 68 yard touchdown and a 39 yard touchdown. Trent McDuffie can't have been too shabby on defense considering Timpview put up a goose egg. Chris Steele had some braggadocios tweets about his, McDuffie & Co.'s performance.

It would be too much of a time suck for me to try to be too exhaustive when it comes to non-commits, but I'll try to highlight a few interesting things for that group each week as well. A couple of highlights:

Mountain Island Charter beat Christ the King 70-7, with Marcus Graham contributing 2 of 4 passing for 78 yards and 1 touchdown. What shocks me is that MIC's offense was really powered by somebody else, a junior running back with 235 yards and 6 touchdowns on only 6 carries (ummm, touchdown every time he touched the ball, many from way downtown). Graham was not one of the 16 players who showed up in the defensive box score for MIC or one of the two guys to return kickoffs. Apparently Graham hurt his knee early in the game and came out but is not expected to miss a lot of time. I don't know whether he would have played both ways or not if healthy.

Christopher and Myles Hinton got off to a good start with a 24-21 Greater Atlanta Christian win over Lovett. Christopher Hinton apparently wreaked havoc, including in one four play stretch alone in which he had a sack, a deflection, a hurry that resulted in an interception, and then another sack on the first play of the next drive. He also plays on the offensive line with his mega whale brother so they're got to be no fun for opposing big uglies.

Ty Robinson had only two tackles in Higley's 48-47 win over Paraclete - clearly not a defensive showdown - and was not one of the four players on his defense with a tackle for loss.
