Stanford extended its first 2017 offers today. The three that have been discussed on the board today (Darnay Holmes, Jack Anderson and Jeff Okudah) are all legitimate, and I'm hearing that there are actually 15 or so (total, including those three) that will be extended in the next few days. (A few of the 2017 prospects that we have discussed here over the past few months are strong candidates, and then some that will be out of left field.)
How does this compare to Stanford's 2016 recruiting pace? Well, there is no comparison.
Stanford offered only two prospects last April - Kaden Smith and Robert Washington. They offered two more later in the spring (Deontay Anderson and Brandon Jones). A few more trickled out over summer, and a few more throughout the fall/early winter.
Stanford didn't reach the 15 offer mark until about January, 2015.
So, they're being much more aggressive to start the 2017 cycle than they were to start the 2016 cycle (and the 2015 cycle, for that matter), despite the fact that 2017 probably won't be as big of a class as 2016.
