One can look at this and make one's own observations. One that seems to jump out is a formidable Florida State OL. But what we're most interested in, of course, is how Stanford stacks up. It is sobering that we don't have any of the top 50 returning OL in the ACC. If one includes transfers it's arguable that we don't have a top 70 guy on paper. Frankly that sucks. We need to be realistic about what our OL talent looks like on paper. Not good at all.

The most important thing in terms of talent is proven quality. Here are how the ACC teams rank in terms of what I would consider proven quality (64+ in Power Four, 67+ in Group of Five, 70+ in FCS): Virginia (6), Florida State (5), Duke (3), NC State (3), SMU (3), Louisville (3), Pitt (3), North Carolina (3), Syracuse (3), Clemson (2), Miami (2), Boston College (2), Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest, Cal, Stanford. We only had even one because I arbitrarily determined that 70+ in FCS is good and counted Mejia despite not playing last year. Yikes.

In terms of the sheer numerical calculation of number of OL who have played starting-level snaps at the major college football level, it's Louisville (9), Cal (9), Virginia (8), Florida State (7), Wake Forest (7), SMU (6), North Carolina (6), Clemson (5), Miami (5), Duke (4), NC State (4), Virginia Tech (4), Pitt (4), Stanford (4), Syracuse (4), Boston College (3), Georgia Tech (3). [By the way, I am aware that there are players missed by this exercise. For instance, I know Fisher Anderson played 200+ snaps for us in 2023 and is not included here. Even I have limits on how much I'll dive into an exercise like this. I know some guys are missed but generally I think I'm capturing the ACC OL landscape.]

Let's be honest, our OL looks like one of the worst in the ACC. I hope it's not disastrous but I'm pretty sure it will again be a liability. We have guys we are hopeful about taking big strides but other teams have those too and the vast majority of other teams have more guys with legitimate grounds for optimism than we do, not to even mention our embarrassing OL coaching situation and the uncertainty of what's even going on with half of that duo. If we had the 13th or 14th best among the 17 ACC lines I'd take that and run.
