Had a lengthy chat with 2016 Campolindo HS OL Sterling Strother earlier today. He's a double Stanford legacy, his family has season tickets to Stanford football, he has a 32 ACT, a 4.3 GPA, and, based on the fact that he's only played tackle football for a few years, he seemingly possesses a lot of upside. In other words, he's someone who would be a terrific addition to the Stanford football program.

Sterling will sit down with Bloomgren and Shaw tomorrow on Stanford's campus, so it will be interesting to see what comes of that. I can pretty much guarantee that Stanford would love him as a walk-on (heck, I wouldn't be surprised if they offered him a spot tomorrow), and he has the academics to make that a possibility. And he's open to that option. But I also wouldn't be surprised if his recruiting profile grew to the point where he would want to come in as a scholarship player. And I would imagine he's someone who might be willing to come to camp and would be in the scholarship mix for the Cardinal as well, depending on how things shake out. So we'll see what happens, but he's definitely someone to keep an eye on moving forward.

4/9 Update: Exchanged messages with Sterling tonight. Adam Gorney might have another post/article on it, but Stanford did offer him a walk-on spot, and he will consider it. However, he said that his top Ivy League offers are more appealing at this point, in part because he wouldn't find out about Stanford admissions until December. A Stanford scholarship would be a game-changer, and the Cardinal told him that they would continue to evaluate him for one. So, still a bunch of different ways this could play out, and we'll see what happens.
