Obviously a bit of a slow period for the next two weeks leading up to camp... fortunately one of the final slow periods until the season begins. (Well, July is as well, but point is that football will be here soon!)
Some football/basketball links/thoughts/notes...
-Stanford is truly in a remarkably good spot when it comes to recruiting offensive linemen. Forget the specifics of class size/numbers limitations for a minute. They have two linemen who have offers from the entire Pac-12 (and national programs) in Brett Neilon and Andrew Vorhees who (at last check, anyway) will be camping in a few weeks. It's relatively unusual for players who have offer lists of that caliber to camp for offers this late in the process, but such is the appeal of playing OL at Stanford. Similar deal with Drew Dalman, though the offer list is not quite as lengthy and the Stanford connections obviously play a role.
And there are others aside from the "Big Three," for lack of a better term. Nick Brahms is out there as a high academic/football kid who would have interest. Andrew Stueber has a 3.6 GPA and a 28 ACT and a very solid offer list (and interest in Stanford), but it's probably a bit of an uphill climb for someone like him to find a spot in this class. And I'd imagine there are others I'm not currently aware of/who could emerge in the coming months. We'll see how/if Stanford gets creative to add some of these talented linemen to the program despite the space constraints.
-On a related note, Stanford could legitimately end up signing the nation's top QB, top TE and top OT in this year's class. Is there a more powerful offer for a player at those positions than Stanford?
-ICYMI, some good nuggets from Anurag in a recent post.
-Iowa DL Dylan Boles, who reports a Stanford walk-on offer, intends to camp with the Cardinal next month. Not a situation where a scholarship is a realistic possibility at this point, but he would be a nice addition as a walk-on. Ivy League and FCS programs are also involved, and he's getting Big Ten looks.
-Texas LB Mohamed Sanogo will apparently be camping this summer.
Sanogo was the LB MVP of the Dallas Opening Regional. Not a great offer list right now, but intriguing athletic and academic numbers.
-2017 four-star North Carolina DL Xach Gill wants to visit Stanford this summer.
-I think there should be more talk about AT Hall as a potential starter in 2016.
-Nothing too new here that we haven't discussed, but a nice article on Bailey McElwain from his local paper.
-As noted in the other thread, WR target Tarik Black just spent a few days with Davis Mills down in Georgia. Black named UCLA his leader a month or two ago, and there weren't great Stanford vibes when I did a bit of additional digging at that time, but it will be interesting to see how this visit impacts Tarik's view of the Cardinal. I have a message out to him, will hopefully be able to set up an interview soon.
-One of Cal basketball's top players, guard, Jordan Mathews, will transfer and play his final year elsewhere. Ivan Rabb returns for Cal (and the Bears will probably land grad transfer Marcus Lee), but the departure of Mathews and Jaylen Brown leaves Cal pretty light on scoring/perimeter play save Jabari Bird, who's had an inconsistent career.
-Dorian Pickens will represent Stanford on a Pac-12 all-star tour of Australia. The coaching staff will have a heavy Stanford influence - Mike Montgomery will lead the team. Brevin Knight, Trent Johnson and Casey Jacobsen will be his assistants.
-Old news by this point, but a massively successful Fresno area high school basketball coach (and Cal alum) will join Jerod Haase's staff in some capacity.
-Four-star guard D'shawn Schwartz said that Stanford, Colorado and Cal are his favorites. I don't believe he currently has a Cardinal offer - not exactly sure where Schwartz stands with Stanford at this time. In the same article, 3/4 Ira Lee notes that he plans to visit Stanford next month.
-Tucker Fisk clearly has good hands.
