With Jack West committing, there has been a lot of talk about how great the three year QB haul of Costello-Mills-West would be if it comes to fruition. I thought it might be interesting to put that kind of haul into perspective. While rankings for Mills and West are very much works in progress, at the moment the respective 247 composite rankings for these guys are #46 Costello, #57 Mills, and #186 West.
QB recruiting happens so early that there are actually a few programs that also have standout 2016-2018 QB recruiting hauls already in the works. They are:
USC: #465 Matt Fink, 2017 TBD (hoping for #60 Tua Tagovailoa and/or #205 Jack Sears), #8 Matt Corral
Notre Dame: #521 Ian Book, #239 Avery Davis, #20 Phil Jurkovec
Auburn: #219 Woody Barrett, 2017 TBD, #47 Joey Gatewood
Oregon: #370 Terry Wilson, 2017 TBD, #176 Colson Yankoff
LSU: #1057 Lindsey Scott, #112 Lowell Narcisse, #255 Zadock Dinkelmann
USC's three year QB haul could be nothing to sneeze at but at the moment one would certainly have to put Stanford as the leader in the clubhouse for 2016-2018 QB recruiting.
The ones of somewhat recent vintage that really stand out to me as exceptional:
USC (2005-2007): #3 Mark Sanchez, #375 Garrett Green, #19 Aaron Corp
Florida (2005-2007): #79 Josh Portis, #17 Tim Tebow, #26 John Brantley, #62 Cam Newton
Notre Dame (2006-2008): #107 Demetrius Jones, #114 Zach Frazier, #2 Jimmy Clausen, #19 Dayne Crist
Clemson (2007-2009): #54 Willy Korn, #136 Kyle Parker, #31 Tajh Boyd
Alabama (2008-2009): #181 Star Jackson, #81 AJ McCarron, #29 Philip Sims
USC (2009-2011): #1 Matt Barkley, #87 Jesse Scroggins, #88 Max Wittek, #142 Cody Kessler
USC (2013-2015): #11 Max Browne, #484 Jalen Greene, #79 Ricky Town, #147 Sam Darnold
Alabama (2013-2015): #80 Cooper Bateman, #79 David Cornwell, #21 Blake Barnett
Texas A&M (2013-2015): #169 Kohl Stewart, #231 Kenny Hill, #10 Kyle Allen, #33 Kyler Murray
Alabama (2015-2017): #21 Blake Barnett, #177 Jalen Hurts, #60 Tua Tagovailoa, #280 Mac Jones
Texas A&M (2015-2017): #33 Kyler Murray, #527 Nick Starkel, #78 Kellen Mond
Stanford (2016-2018): #46 KJ Costello, #57 Davis Mills, #186 Jack West
So in my estimation, if we can bring Mills and West into the fold we will have something like the 5th/6th/7th best three year QB haul of the last decade plus. Pretty exciting.
