Stanford used to have to throw the ball all over the field to try to beat ranked opponents. It used to be that the defense couldn't be counted on to do more than slow the opposing team, let alone make a critical stop at the end of a game. For most of the past 10 years the opposite has been true. The loss Saturday felt familiar to many Stanford fans, and that includes the parts of the game that went well.
How Stanford attacked WSU's defense fit the strengths of the team and resulted in some encouraging grades. It also clearly helped the morale of the offensive players. Whether it plays out that way going forward will be interesting to see in Seattle.
