Sticking with the theme of the day (Davis Mills' success at the Elite 11 QB camp), figured it would be a good time to explore some of the quarterbacks expected at Stanford's quarterback camp next Tuesday (6/14).
This year's Cardinal QB camp will be different than any I've covered in previous years due to the fact that one of the rising juniors actually already has an offer. Most years, camp is a key tool Stanford's staff uses to identify its rising junior QB offer target. This year, Jack West already has a scholarship.
West is expected to arrive on campus next Thursday to begin a week-long unofficial visit. He'll see basically everything there is to see, and he'll participate in Tuesday's camp. If all goes well, the visit could be a bit step toward West becoming a Stanford football player.
But while West is clearly the leader in the clubhouse to be Stanford's 2018 QB prospect, it's not a done deal. Alabama and others are pushing, and the allure of playing for the Crimson Tide is clearly quite strong. So we'll see where things stand after Jack's visit.
In the meantime, the Cardinal will continue to evaluate several other 2018 signal callers. Several of the nation's top prospects are expected to camp next month.
Jack West (Stanford's only '18 QB offer, national recruit, was great at camp last year, etc.. etc...)
Tanner McKee (Hawaii, Colorado offers, earned rave reviews at a recent 7-on-7. McKee is LDS - I'm in the process of getting clarity about his mission plans.)
Jack Tuttle (One of West Coast's hottest QB prospects. 10 or so offers including LSU, Nebraska, Wisconsin)
Colson Yankoff (Another rising West Coast QB prospect. Duke just offered. WSU, Utah, etc... have as well.)
Blake Stenstrom (Stanford legacy, Colorado offer, Dylan McCaffrey's backup at Valor Christian)
Allan Walters (Donald Stewart's former HS teammate, some strong national offers)
Cade Fortin (I haven't confirmed this, but it's possible. 10-plus offers for Ga. native who camped last summer.)
And then there will probably be a few other interesting 2018 QB's I'm not yet aware of - I'll post a full list of notables next week. (And will update if anything surfaces in the interim.)
Here are a few other interesting QB's expected to attend:
2017 Brycen Mussina (Stanford legacy who is a walk-on candidate)
2019 JT Daniels (Mater Dei QB has early offers from ND, UCLA, Cal, UW, BYU, ASU)
2019 Hank Bachmeier (SoCal QB has an early Colorado offer.)
2020 Harrison Bailey (Eighth grade phenom works with Davis Mills' QB coach. Miami, UNC offers)
So it should be a very good group of quarterbacks, as tends to be the case.
Also, on a totally unrelated note, for bonus points: Name the Stanford target who will earn a bump to five-star status when we release our new rankings tomorrow.
