Stanford is targeting multiple players in the newly updated Rivals Top 100 for the 2018 class.

Of course, Stanford's lone commitment in the class is Jack West, and he is rated No. 55 overall and the No. 3 pro-style quarterback.

Cardinal offers:
Jalen Hall (No. 6 overall, No. 1 WR)
Jamaree Salyer (No. 9 overall, No. 1 OG)
Amon-Ra St. Brown (No. 12 overall, No. 2 WR)
KJ Henry (No. 15 overall, No. 2 DE)
BJ Foster (No. 27 overall, No. 2 safety)
Max Wright (No. 45 overall, No. 5 DE)
Solomon Tuliaupupu (No. 48 overall, No. 1 ILB)
Myles Sims (No. 51 overall, No. 9 cornerback)
Teradja Mitchell (No. 56 overall, No. 4 ILB)
Dax Hollifield (No. 91 overall, No. 3 ILB)

Keep an eye on:
Deontrey Hill (No. 53 overall, No. 2 OG)
Alston Orji (No. 90, No. 6 OLB)

Eliminated Stanford:
Foster
Mitchell

Not officially eliminated, but no discernible pulse:
Henry
Sims

Henry

Henry gave Adam Friedman an extensive breakdown of the top schools he is confident will make his top list, and not surprisingly no mention of Stanford.

Sims

In a Feb. 8 interview in a free 247 article (http://georgia.247sports.com/Bolt/Coveted-DB-feels-comfortable-around-UGA-staff-51185741) the reporter paraphrased Sims, saying the following programs "had impressed him with how they have recruited him to date."

"I would say Duke, Clemson, Ohio State, Michigan, Georgia, and Auburn," Sims said.

Sims consistently refrains from naming leaders, but he has not discussed Stanford in any meaningful way.

Jamaree Salyer

In this article is an explanation of Salyer completing his expected rise to a five star and the top offensive guard in the country.

https://n.rivals.com/news/2018-rivals100-update-new-five-stars-same-no-1

From the article:

Analyst's take: “Salyer has been in the five-star discussion since the initial rankings were released, and he finally got the bump after an excellent junior season and a dominating performance at the Future 50 event in Orlando. Salyer is a pure interior guy with impressive strength and technique beyond his years. With his impressive skillset it's not a surprise to see him earn five-star status. Georgia, Clemson, Alabama and others are battling to land his commitment.” – Woody Wommack, Rivals.com Southeast Recruiting Analyst

Farrell’s take: Salyer is special as an aggressive interior lineman and reminds me a bit of Andre Smith (Alabama) from years ago because he’s so physical and nasty. Guards often don’t get this much love from us, but he’s rare.

My note: Last I heard the plan/hope was for Salyer to visit Stanford in the spring and retake the ACT/SAT in the summer. I'll get an update on that as soon as possible. I think if people were taking bets right now Georgia leads and Stanford is fighting it out in a top-5 position. Can Stanford get him back to campus is the big question. There isn't the same kind of positive buzz/vibe here as with Walker Little and Foster Sarell at the same point in the past cycle. And Salyer has leaped up the rankings faster than they did.

Max Wright

Stanford needs to get Wright back on campus. When he visited during the fall the trip went very well and made a significant impact on his thinking. At the time Wright was a consensus top 100-150 type talent and now he's making a move toward possible five-star status down the road. He's doing very well at camps and talks often about visiting the elite programs that have offered in the past couple months. Stanford hasn't come up in recent interviews with Wright, which is why Stanford needs to get him back on campus.

From the article:

Previous Rank: 79

Change: +34 spots

Analysis: “Wright has already shown early this spring that he can be a force of nature at defensive end. He's big enough to slide inside and fiercely rush the passer on every play. He's strong and plays with good drive and leverage, and should continue to show well at upcoming events. Wright has a number of offers, but is thought to have Texas A&M penciled in as his leader.” – Nick Krueger, Rivals.com Texas Recruiting Analyst

Hollifield and Tuliaupupu

It's safe to say these two linebackers are two of the most important targets in a year that Stanford needs to hit a home run with linebacker recruiting. They've both seen their recruiting stock skyrocket in the past couple months. Both have given interviews in which it's clear they're trying to formulate a plan and narrow their focus on select schools among their ever-growing offer list.

A recent free interview by Hollifield:

He names Stanford in his top nine schools and the geography of the group immediately stands out. Stanford is the only school west of Louisiana on the list. Also included is Alabama, LSU, South Carolina, Notre Dame, Florida State, North Carolina, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

And just because it will be noticed when people read the article, he did say, "Stanford talks to me a little bit but not as much as the others."

Two things: First, my least favorite question in covering recruiting is who is talking to you the most or recruiting you the hardest. Stanford is almost never mentioned in those answers and that includes many players Stanford has signed. It's a question that has value, but too often the answer is limited to schools air-dropping 100 letters on your doorstep.

Second, Stanford is talking to him enough and he is interested enough that he wants to visit with his father (Aubrey, a very successful boys basketball coach at Dax's HS in Shelby, NC), despite Stanford being across the country and nowhere near any of his other top schools.

Tuliaupupu visited with his 7-on-7 team this past weekend. It's tough to say where his recruitment is now compared to when I first spoke to him after the Stanford offer. He was thrilled about it then. But he has a number of elite programs pursuing him and this is going to be a tough recruitment. Given USC's momentum recruiting linebackers right now it's my opinion that it may have been a well timed visit to The Farm from Stanford's perspective.
