STANFORD, Calif. - Brennan Scarlett, who has been admitted to Stanford's graduate program for management science and engineering, will join the Cardinal football program while pursuing a master's degree.
Scarlett will be the program's first graduate transfer.
The defensive lineman played 18 games in four seasons at Cal, totaling 54 tackles (9.0 tackles for loss) and 4.5 sacks.
Scarlett was a 2013 candidate for the Ted Hendricks Award, given annually to the nation's top defensive end, and earned Pac-12 Conference All-Academic honors in 2012.
A native of Portland, Oregon, Scarlett was selected for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl following his 2010 senior season at Central Catholic High School.
Recent transfers into Stanford's program have exhibited an impressive track record of success on and off the field.
Consensus All-America center Chase Beeler came to Stanford from Oklahoma, and led the Cardinal to a 2011 Orange Bowl victory over Virginia Tech. Beeler earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees in history during his time on The Farm and signed as an undrafted free agent with the San Francisco 49ers.
Long snapper Andrew Fowler matriculated to Stanford from Williams College prior to the 2007 season, played in three bowl games, double-majored in art history and economics, and added a master's degree in management science and engineering.
After sitting out the 2008 campaign upon transferring from Notre Dame, tight end Konrad Reuland went on to a career in the NFL after earning his undergraduate degree in communication.
Scarlett's brother, Cameron, will be a freshman on Stanford's squad next season.
