Stanford’s Marcus Allen Sustains Foot Injury
Junior guard sidelined from basketball activities
STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford head men’s basketball coach Johnny Dawkins has announced Cardinal junior guard Marcus Allen sustained a stress fracture in his right foot.
Allen will be unable to participate in basketball activities during his recovery period. A timetable has not yet been set for his return to the court.
“First, and foremost, we want to make sure Marcus is fully healthy before returning to the court,” Dawkins said. “We wish him all the best during his recovery period. Marcus played at a high level during our summer exhibition competition in Italy, where he was one of our leading scorers. We will certainly miss him as we continue to prepare for the season, but we are fortunate that this happened now and he will be back before he knows it.”
Allen played in 36 games, making 23 starts as a sophomore during Stanford’s 24-win season last year. He averaged 6.4 points and 3.5 rebounds, shooting 51.1 percent from the field for the Cardinal. Allen averaged 11.4 points and 5.4 rebounds during Stanford’s 2015 postseason NIT title run.
Stanford opens the 2015-16 season at home against Wisconsin-Green Bay on Friday, Nov. 13 at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal will play its first three games at home with contests against Charleston Southern on Sunday, Nov. 15, and SMU on Thursday, Nov. 19.
