Sagarin has gone nuts

I have been a big fan of Sagarin over the years. As others have pointed out, his spreads are very close to what the final Vegas spreads are. Moreover, at least in the past, his methodology was entirely objective (basically pretty close to Steve D's RPRs).

Now I don't know what's happened. There's just no way that his rankings can be right.

4-5 Washington is rated one place ahead of 6-3 Oregon despite the fact that the Ducks beat them by 6 points in Seattle?

6-3 USC is ahead of 7-1 LSU? 6-3 USC is a top 10 team?

8-1 Oklahoma, who lost to a terrible Texas team, is the #3 team in the country.

I think it was CJ90 who made this point earlier. There's no way from the objective evidence, the pure stats, that you can rank those teams like that. Yes, USC might be a top 10 team - but they haven't demonstrated it so far. Who ever heard of a Top 10 team firing their coach midseason?

I'm confused.
