After the Pac-12 segment on GameDay they showed the Washington State flag in the crowd (283rd consecutive GameDay appearance for Ol’ Crimson) and then Rece Davis roasted us:
“They play Stanford today. Did you guys hear that the guy who’s in the Tree costume at Stanford got suspended because he held up a sign that says ‘Stanford Hates Fun’? Well you know what? Stanford apparently does hate fun, and if the fun’s in the winning, well, Stanford doesn’t know what fun is anymore.”
Then the Bear said “they also hate going to football games” and Kirk Herbstreit (whose body language/nervous laughs, along with Desmond Howard, seemed to suggest not relishing Stanford being a laughingstock) said “that’s never been their wheelhouse” (in an almost defensive tone).
Most obvious thing in the world this is how our program would be covered and how the inane suspension of the Tree would be received. I hope it is embarrassing to folks who matter.
(Yes, I know technically the LSJUMB and not the university suspended the Tree. If you’re explaining you’re losing. And there is no doubt Stanford hates fun.)
P. S. We were just part of the Aflac trivia question, which was which was the last AP #1 team to lose at home. Apparently it’s Oregon for losing to us in 2012. So a half hour stretch in GameDay becomes a contrast between the glory years and the current dumps.
