For those of us that assumed QB was a position of strength for us heading into 2020, here's a rather humbling reality check: according to PFF, the combination of Davis Mills and K.J. Costello was no better than 90th (!!) in the nation in 2019.
That's good for 12th in the Pac-12.
AKA dead last.
Just think about that for a second.
The #3 overall QB in the 2016 recruiting class and the #1 overall QB in the 2017 recruiting class combined to grade out in the bottom third of all FBS teams. PFF ranked the Cardinal generously at #7 overall in the preseason. By Week 6, our ranking had fallen to #69 in the country.
I'm still a big Mills believer but my goodness does that suggest we've got a long ways to go. For those of you that nerd out on PFF's publications, was there a single metric that we actually managed to grade out well in last season?? Because if so, that's news to me.
