Sounds like he wanted to stay on, the university wanted him to step down as performance was declining on the field, and the solution was to have him step down and stay on as a 'special assistant' to maintain his salary until his contract is up.
I know there are varying opinions on Mark Marquess, just thought this was interesting. I haven't been following closely - how is our baseball program looking (both this year and programmatically)?
