I have a friend who was a walk on football player and ran track at UCLA back in their Donahue hey day, early mid 80s. I think he went to 3 RBs and a Fiesta Bowl.
I was chatting with him recently, and learned that he was a 10.6 100 guy, but a 46 400 meter guy. But that he couldnt even make their 4 by 400 relay team. So I dug a bit deeper, and learned that on UCLA's track team during that time were,
Mike Powell - LJ world record holder.
Kevin Young - 400M Hurdles world record holder. Broke Edwin Moses' long-standing WR.
Danny Everett - 400M - won silver medal at Seoul 1988 Summer Olympics
Mike Marsh - 200M - won silver medal in Barcelona (1992). At the time he was 1/100th short of the then WR (in a semi heat)
Steve Lewis(400M gold medal at Seoul 1988 Summer Olympics
Jackie-Joyner Kersee
Florence Griffith Joyner
Gail Devers
(These three women have to be some of the sports biggest achievers ever)
That is a serious aggregation of talent at one time at one college.
Maybe i am off base, but has there been anything similar that you guys can think off where so much elite talent was at one school at one time in a sport? (I think they overlapped over his time, not all at the same time)
Was just curious as I know lots on here now lots of sports trivia, TIA.
