Below are some of the relevant comments from our Q and A last night.

Also, I was able to connect with a source close to the recruitment earlier today - his feeling was that it would work out with Stanford in the end. Based on that talk and my conversation with David, I would disagree with the assertion that Stanford is not in play, which, per Stannyboy, was reported by 247 earlier today.

That said, I don't think Long is 100 percent solid and I do think there will be continuing drama here. This is an extremely competitive recruitment for one of the best players in the country. And the big-time college football powers are giving it their all to lure Long to their respective programs.

Stanford's current message to Long is, essentially, that they love his abilities and want to get him in the program and that he can play wherever he wants. It does sound like he wants something a bit more concrete from the Cardinal on his future position.

It's impossible to know how, exactly, this recruitment will play out. But Stanford still has a lot going for it, and if Long is admitted I suspect the rest will fall into place. But I do think there are legitimate concerns beyond just him getting into school.

Here's some of my exchange with Long:

You committed a few months ago. How have things been with them since? Who are you talking to from over there, what's the relationship like?

Long: I'm still talking with Coach Bloomgren. Everything is still going well, I just have some questions on my end about where I'll be coming, whether it will be on the offensive side of the ball or the defensive side of the ball.

What do you think of Stanford's season so far?

Long: Yeah, I've been watching the games. I think they're doing really well. Aside from the loss to Northwestern I think they couldn't ask for a better start. I think everything is going great and everything is falling into place exactly how it should be.

Where does everything stand with admissions?

Long: I'm waiting to get my SAT scores back and then I'll go from there. I'm still in the process of filling out the app. I think my SAT scores come back Thursday, so I'll see from there.

Back to the position situation, cornerback, that's where you want to be at the college level? I know that's what you said in the past. That's how you're still feeling?

Long: Yes.

Are there any other questions with Stanford aside from the position and I guess to a certain degree admissions, or are those really the main two at this point?

Long: Uh, no. At this point I'm just allowing this time with my uncertainty of me either getting in or whatnot, I'm still going to evaluate everything, so it's allowing me to really see if it's really the best fit for me, which I really appreciate, because if it is, I'm glad I took these visits. And if it's not, I'm still glad I took these visits. So I think this is a win-win opportunity for me to really see what's the best it and best idea for me.
