I recorded the game and just got done watching it. There is so much wrong with this team. Haase may love these guys, but I give up on them for two reasons that each guy should have corrected long ago and they have no excuse for not being much better.
1. FT shooting - I harp on this a lot, but I'm sorry, this costs us games and there is absolutely no reason why our guys can't make FTs at a very high level. Delaire misses 2 in a row that would have tied us at 54. The misses prevent us from setting up a press or our half court D and turns momentum over to ASU who then score 4 more unanswered points and deflates our guys. Reynaud misses the front end of 1 and 1 with the score at 58-52, instead of cutting the lead to 4. Again, the miss gets ASU and their crowd revved up and our guys having to think desperation. We missed 7 Fts an shot 53% from the line - that's junior high basketball territory
2. Stupidity - ASU using up time on the shot clock; we don;t foul but then MOC with 11 seconds on the shot clock fouls and they make two more FTs. Anybody with half a brain knows either right away or let the possession play out. ASU then goes on to take a close game throughour and turn it into a 9 pt. win.
I don't know what our guys scored on the SATs, nor do I care. But when they step on to the court, they are dumb. Even Don McLean commented on their stupidity - he used the term not playing smart which means stupid.
There's been far too much of these two failures, not just this year, but under Haase. Maybe it's on the coaches, maybe not. But the players should be able to correct these things without having a coach tell them.
There are other issues, but it's really frustrating and hard to cheer our players on when they seem unwilling to improve in these two areas.
