It hasn't been a fun realization in recent years since Lance Anderson appears to be a prince of a man and, from both public reporting and insider accounts, the most important recruiter on staff, but evidence continues to mount that he has one of the worst track records in Power Five coaching over the last half decade.

Here are how Pac-12 defenses have ranked in Defensive FEI the last five years (ranked in order of median):

1) Washington: #7, #12, #15, #15, #65

2) Utah: #9, #13, #22, #29, #37

3) Cal: #11, #31, #36, #43, #55

4) Arizona State: #28, #33, #37, #67, #76

5) Oregon: #5, #35, #38, #44, #70

6) USC: #32, #36, #55, #55, #101

7) Colorado:#48, #51, #73, #92, #93

8) Washington State: #20, #22, #75, #105, #117

8) Stanford: #42, #52, #75, #79, #112

10) UCLA: #60, #76, #81, #87, #90

11) Arizona: #74, #83, #88, #100, #105

12) Oregon State: #96, #102, #109, #125, #129

Stanford's #75 for 2021 is actually misleading as it will crater further (probably substantially) following yesterday's game. We're probably the 10th or 11th best defensive team in the conference over the last five years. So bad.

For what it's worth, Arizona fired the previous staff in response to the above and Oregon State fired the defensive coordinator in response. You don't get worse at your job while keeping it than Lance Anderson and Jerry Azzinaro (UCLA).
