I have been able to do pretty extensive film study of four-star hoops commit Kezie Okpala but tonight was my first chance to see him in person. Truth be told, he didn't play very well. That's the rub, though, despite an off night he found a way to impact a win and he still impressed me with his considerable potential.
He needs more strength, he needs to be more aggressive going to the rim, he needs more lift on his jumper and he needs a post game. That being said, the dude is pushing 6-foot-8, handles like most point guards and has a feel for the game and upside that is through the roof.
I love to scout guys on off nights to see how they fight through it and he still managed to get 23 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks when he was scuffling with his shot most of the night.
I'll be running a feature on him on the national site tomorrow but it's totally fascinating to me that a kid with his upside has essentially been totally overlooked from an attention standpoint. It may take a year or two for things to really click for him, but if they do I think he could develop into a legitimate NBA prospect. Brandon Ingram style wing.
