Hey guys, I just caught up with 2023 3-star safety Brock Fonoimoana. He lives in Hawaii hence the later interview. He won't be at the Junior Day this weekend, but he is planning on a visit in the summer. That's the plan. Below are key quotes. The rest will be saved for the article.
His thoughts on the coaching staff and his relationship with them: "It’s grown pretty strong, especially with Coach Akina. I’ve received weekly messages from Coach Bobby Kennedy about how Stanford is the place for me and how it’s a program that is amazing in both football and more importantly academics. I’ve been on several phone calls with Coach Akina as well and he really expresses how special of a place Stanford is."
On what Stanford is recruiting him at: "Yes, safety. They like how I move and my athleticism. The like my playmaking skills and my reads as well."
On Coach Akina: "I think Coach Akina is a pretty wise guy. He takes his time to explain things before getting to the point so that you have a better understanding of what he is talking about. It was easy to talk to him over the phone and in person. I also like how he explained the uniqueness of Stanford."
On how much academics matter: "Very very much. I know football will not last forever and for most it will end either in high school or college so the elite academics Stanford offers is something I will take most advantage of."
On having Lance Anderson being a fellow Latter-Day Saint: "Yes, that is a big factor to me personally. Where I am raised, majority of the population is LDS, so having players and especially a coach that has the same belief is just awesome."
On a decision timeline: "I’m not positive on my decision timeline, but I would like to commit before my senior football season."
