If you are going to play Hogan at all in the spring game, then attack. Open it up. Everyone on the field knows the playbook. No excuses. Use all the TE's on the field. Get your jumbo packages in the game that you are undoubtably going to use time after time again in '15. Put McCaffrey in the slot with Wright in the backfield. Attack! Keep throwing the ball downfield against guys who have barely or never seen the field on defense in the secondary. You gave Rollins Stallworth a schollie. Utilize him. Be relentless. I thought Marx was given the ball in a pretty big situation last year. Where was that 'weapon'? Zero touches or targets. Put 7 or 8 TD's up on the board. Be relentless.
Nope. Going to stay ultra-conservative. Vanilla formations. Kick FG's at every opportunity possible. Let the defense blitz and take it to the offense. Punt and Kick FG's. Its an alarming mindset from the head coach that is becoming the personality of the team on offense. No fire. Lethargic. Don't want Northwestern to see anything? They have 7 years of tape! Show them more things than they have ever seen.
Over 5 weeks of spring football, did Burns take a snap with Shuler and the rest of the 1's on the OL? With Mac, Hooper, Rector, etc.? I didn't see it. Andy, would you mind asking the head ball coach why Burns wasn't mixed in with the 1's over spring? Hogan has been really durable but why not prepare?
Re: personnel, I thought the play of Soly Thomas was encouraging. I think he is the one guy on the DL who might be able to get to the QB without any scheme. It looks like a DL rotation next year of Scarlett, Shittu, Phillips and Thomas. I like Okereke but he looks like a sub package ILB only right now. Alexander is a nickel but there should be some interesting depth at corner over the next few years. Alfieri will be fine as the 3rd OLB. He, Barton and Kalambayi will be a really athletic group outside in '16 combined with Okereke and Martinez inside Wait. What? That's right. Blake had his shirt burned in year 1 on kick off coverage.
Tucker had a tough day yesterday. But he's going to be fine and benefit more than most from s/c over the next 4.5 months.
