This is an objective look at a player's status relative to the depth chart, NOT performance.
For example, Hogan is QB1 which would earn an arrow up.

ARROW UP

  • MARTINEZ - Defensive captain only came off the field due to helmet issue.
  • McCAFFREY - Taken over as RB1.. KOR1....PR1...
  • WHITFIELD - Played every snap on defense. Nothing game changing, but not bad either.
  • OWUSU - He's getting every opportunity. Is it in there?
  • SHITTU - Starter playing over the ball to over the OT
  • HOGAN - QB1
  • EDWARDS - Shirt burned to contribute on 3 of 4 teams
  • SCHULTZ - #1 TE recruit in America limited to 1 for 6 yards. Big reason we did not see any jumbo packages. Hard to take him and 18 off the field.
  • ALEXANDER - First nickel and played about half of those allotted snaps. Struggled
  • HOLDER - Starter in time-share with MURPHY. Drop in end zone could have delayed the inevitable.
  • BAILEY - Shirt burned for KO
  • PEREZ - Time-share with PALMA. Showed why I did not think he could be on the field but here he is.
  • SCARLETT, B. - Did not start but in the 4-man rotation and very disruptive.
  • HOOPER - TE1
  • HARRIS - Played every snap - only 1 of those really hurt.
  • REID - See EDWARDS..
  • WRIGHT - Not RB1 anymore but not relegated to the bench either. He actually has a very important role - Shaw hands the ball off to him on 3rd and longs.
  • MURPHY - Just about half the snaps at CB with HOLDER.
  • MEEKS - Time-share at nickel. Looks like Akina wants him to be the guy here but very raw.
  • LLOYD - Played every snap. Kind of shows you where SIMMONS is really. I had flashbacks to Austin Yancy.
  • BRANCH - Shirt burned on 2 of 4 teams.
  • ALFIERI - OLB3 gives a rare breather to 34 and 48 and also plays on all 4 teams.
  • KALAMBAYI - The beast didn't get any sacks, but had a nice day.
  • UKROPINA - Takes over for JW. Will be interesting to see if he gets the long attempts. Well... not that interesting.
  • MARX - Lead the way fairly well inside. No carries or catches.
  • PALMA - Time -share with PEREZ. That pretty much says it.
  • ROBINSON - Not too shabby with the exception of the 14 yard net from the 34 but that is a Shaw problem.
  • ANDERSON - What you see is what you get. Solid not spectacular.
  • MURPHY/GARNETT/SHULER/CASPERS/TUCKER - starting unit played every snap together. Need to be better obviously.
  • PHILLIPS - Starter at DT carrying the much needed extra weight well. Fingers crossed.
  • THOMAS, S - Starter at DE. Thank God he shirted last year.
ARROW DOWN
  • SIMMONS - Zero snaps at safety
  • THOMAS, T - Clearly recruited over. Not in the mix at nickel or CB
  • JORDAN - Nothing for him in our 350 page book.
  • OKEREKE - Keep adding that weight young fella.
  • BRANDT-SIMS - Unfortunately saw the writing when LOVE saw the field.
  • SANDERS - 2 carries
  • TYLER - 1 series at the end of the first half.
  • PIPPENS - See THOMAS, T.
  • ROTTO/LOHN/WATKINS - Not part of DL rotation
  • BRIGHT - No jumbo, nothing. Hoping that changes.
  • DAVIDSON - TUCKER still holding him off.
  • FANAIKA - Nothing for the Ogre in Game 1
  • AUSTIN - See BRIGHT (except for the hoping it changes part)
  • COTTON - Starting to wonder if he said something not nice to Mrs Shaw.
  • CRANE - See JORDON.
  • HARRELL - MARX is clearly FB1
  • VEACH - Not going to happen.
  • TABOADA - In for less than a handful of offensive snaps.
  • KAUMATULE - Nothing for the big man.
TOUGH CALLS
  • IRWIN - Saw the field as a true frosh- for ONE play with CAJUSTE and RECTOR both out a bunch.
  • LOVE - Gets one carry in first college game. Maybe Shaw didn't exactly like the way he couldn't turn the corner.
  • STALLWORTH - Starts with 89 and 3 out. On the field for 2 second half snaps both of which were handoffs.
