David Shaw spoke with members of the media via Zoom after the first practice of training camp. Football has arrived! And it's at Woodside High in San Mateo County. Shaw hopes to be practicing at Stanford soon but the logistics of holding a practice about 15 minutes away from their usual practice fields seemed to not be a problem.

The coaches broke up the team into two separate practices: the first was for the "young guys" and the second was for the "older players", which I presume includes returning starters who are underclassmen. There were about 50 players at the first practice.

I think as you'd expect there were very few details about the how the team looked. That is typical even pre-COVID. Shaw thinks he can see the positive results of the extra meetings the players had with the coaches during the summer when the season was postponed. He says they also plan to spread out offensive installation more than they typically do. The goal appears to be the same as what they talked about last year of simplifying the learning process to become proficient — it's just a different tactic to accomplish that this year.

According to Shaw, the three freshmen offensive linemen who played a lot last year look completely different now compared to the end of last season. He described comparing them today to a photo of the five starters on the field last season and the change was very noticeable to him.
