In case anyone was curious: Stanford's staff has been hitting recruiting hard over the last few months, and they've actually pulled slightly ahead of their pace from the last two years.
Stanford had roughly 55 offers out for the 2015 class at this time last year. According to my best count, Stanford already has 66 offers out for the 2016 class. (There are a few offers that haven't been super widely tweeted about yet, but 66 is the most accurate number I have. I will update our database sometime in the next few days with a few offers that we're missing.) Granted, this is a large class, but last year's wasn't exactly small, either.
(The Cardinal had 64 offers out to the 2015 class as of June 15, 2014. I have no clue where they'll be numbers-wise come mid-June, but history has shown that at least a few more offers will be extended between March and June.)
I don't have an exact count for 2014, but they had roughly 62 offers out at this time in that recruiting cycle. 2013 isn't really worth considering because it was such a small class.
Obviously, this isn't a drastic shift, (they're not gonna offer 150+ kids per year anytime soon), and one can certainly argue that they should offer even more players/they should have offered more '16 kids earlier in the year, but, clearly, they've been hitting 2016 recruiting hard over these past few months. And I think they're in a pretty good spot at a number of positions. (And this week, of course, could be huge, if Costello picks Stanford on Thursday. The ripple effect from a potential Costello commitment with other prospects could be very interesting to watch. As I mentioned in the other thread, I believe Stanford should be considered the favorite right now, but we'll see what happens.)
On a somewhat related note, and kind of mentioned it in another thread, but this April Junior Day is going to be as large as any spring Junior Day they've had in the last few years. Around 15 or so guys on the list now (8 or so offered guys, 5-6 close to offers, a few others), and I wouldn't be surprised if it grew to around 20 or so by the time the weekend rolls around.
