So all of the open positions this year are driving what appears to be a larger bump in coaching salaries than is typical. I have a always been a fan DJ Durkin and am thrilled to see him get the MD job, but I noticed that he got $2.5M per year for five years as an initial contract for a first time coach. As I understand it, Shaw gets around $2.2M per year.. Over the last year or two, we have seen a couple of assistants seek other offers at higher salaries as a way to induce Stanford to give them a raise. I assume this strategy has been pursued with Shaw's support at some level. It will be interesting to see if Shaw seeks a raise after this year, how Stanford reacts to it, and whether Shaw pursues the same strategy.
