End of P12 Network... and Conference

Out of habit, I clicked on P12 Network Bay Area today and was stunned for a few seconds... the screen said "This channel is no longer available" "Effective June 30, 2024, the Pac-12 Networks have ceased operations."

Even though I knew the end of the Network was near... was still hard to look at the screen and process what the message conveys. End of an era.

I must admit this was very depressing to bluntly be told the Network... and Conference... is truly no more.

Football Recruiting Stanford football recruiting notes: June

Alrighty, here is the Stanford football recruiting notes thread for June. If you missed any of the action from May, check out that thread right here.

Stanford just wrapped up their first weekend of official visitors. If you missed who visited, you can scroll through the May thread or just click on the visitors tab right here. They're all marked in there. Visitors for the coming weekends are also marked as well. I'll continue to be updating that as I learn about more visitors and updates on when guys are visiting. So that's really your go to for all visits.

As far as who the commitments might be. I wonder if it's not as many as the tweets are indicating. Because they put out a lot. But it's at least 4-5 guys by my count. And on that note, I've put in FutureCasts for two additional guys on top of 3-star defensive end Adam Shovlin: 3-star OT Emeka Ugorji and 4-star defensive tackle Kole Briehler. Shovlin is a virtual lock and then I just picked up fresh intel that makes me feel highly confident in Ugorji and Briehler. Hence those FutureCasts. While I haven't picked up any intel on Christian Neptune yet, I think Stanford sits in a really good spot with him. I haven't put a FutureCast in for him at the moment, but that could change.

Anyways, that's all I have to start off the June thread. Once again, do check the May thread for anything you might have missed. For example, @akhockey7 just posted in there that Stanford made the top five for 4-star offensive tackle Josh Petty after his visit. Georgia Tech, Florida State, Ohio State, and Tennessee round it out. So that's exciting for Stanford. Sounds like the weekend did go well for them even if maybe they didn't literally land as many guys as their tweets implied. I'll continue to fish around for more names and see if it's bigger than the 4-5 that I've counted. Right now, looking really good for Shovlin, Ugorji, and Briehler. I feel very safe with my FutureCasts for those three.

Collectives and NIL as early signing leverage?

Knowing that commitments don’t mean squat until signing day (and then only for a year) are there rules against a collective signing a recruit who is or will commit now to a contract that obligates him to a school?

Yes, every contract can be broken an another school could pay a buy out but wondering if there is any opportunity to make commitments more meaningful in June.

Championship Season

Fields and seeds were announced for Beach, Women's WP and Women's Golf.
For Beach, USC, UCLA and Stanford got the top three seeds. IT's a 17 team championship with 16 and 17 doing a play-in game to get eliminated by #1 USC. Stanford gets the 3-seed and will face Georgia State. The Stanford- GA State match will be televised on ESPNU @ 1 PM (PDT) Bracket: Beach Bracket

In Women's Golf, Stanford has held the top spot for the last two rankings. They received the overall #1 seed and will be playing at the Cle Elum Washington Regional. USC and UCLA also got #1 seeds for their regionals, although USC will have to travel to East Lansing for their regional. After USC's finish at the Pac-12, they got bumped to a #1 seed.
Regionals take place May 6-8, followed by the championship finals from May 17-22 in Carlsbad, California.
From the NCAA site: "In regional play, six 54-hole regional competitions will be played to determine the participants in the championship finals. In each regional, 12 teams and six individuals not on those teams will compete. The low five teams and the individual not on those teams will advance to the finals. Beginning in 2024, regional champion awards will be given to the team champions.
In the championship finals, all 30 teams and six individuals will complete 54 holes of stroke play. Following 54 holes of competition, the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals will advance for one additional day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match-play competition and the 72-hole stroke-play individual champion. Stanford has a very well tested match play team with many of their players having participated in recent Junior Ryder Cup and Junior Solheim Cup tournaments.

In Women's WP, there are 9 teams in the tournament. Stanford or USC has won the last 13 tournaments and faced each other in the finals 9 times. Won't happen this time as they face each other in the first round. Stanford got hit heavily by the Olympic year. They have 5 current players, 4 on the USA national team and 1 on the Australian Olympic team. USC and UCLA had a lot that have finished collegiate competition on the team. UCLA is seeded 1 and undefeated for the year. The winner of Stanford-USC gets to play them in the 2nd round. Only Stanford, USC and UCLA have won this tournament that began in 2001.

In Men's golf, Stanford had a rough start, but finished in 3rd place. The format was play 6 and score 5 which places a lot of emphasis on team depth.
Karl Vilips took the individual championship by one stroke and his teammate, Michael Thorbjornsen won last year. Throbjornsen had a rough tournament by his standards. He had a blistering 65 in the first round, but shot 76-75-73 for the last three rounds and finished T8th. Stanford's #3 was Ethan Gao at +13 T22nd, Jake Bieber-Frankel +14 T29th, Barclay Brown T44th was at +19 with an 82 in the first round and Sean Karl Dobson scoring +35 finishing 68th out of 72.
Regionals are announced May 1 at 11 AM and Stanford is hosting the men's western regional at Stanford May 13-15th. Although they're currently ranked outside of the top 25, they'll be in the field. Brown and Thorbjornsen need to get back to their earlier form and Coach Ray needs to find another solid tournament player.
In the PGA Tour University, Michael still has a strong hold on first place which concludes just after the NCAA golf tournament. The No. 1 player will earn PGA TOUR membership for the remainder of the current season, as well as the following season. Players finishing Nos. 2-5 are exempt on Korn Ferry Tour for the remainder of the current season, and they are exempt into Final Stage of PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry. Players finishing Nos. 6-10 earn conditional status on Korn Ferry Tour for the remainder of the current season, and exempt status for the North America Swing of PGA TOUR Americas. They are exempt into Second Stage of PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry. Players finishing Nos. 11-25 are exempt for the North America Swing of PGA TOUR Americas, and they are exempt into Second Stage of PGA TOUR Q-School presented by Korn Ferry.
Besides Thornbjornsen, Karl Vilips is currently ranked in the PGA Tour University and is currently at #20 and he is bound to go up since it doesn't reflect winning the Pac-12 individual title and he should move him up from his #25 WAGR rankings as well, worth additional points.

Softball selection show ill be on ESPN2 on May 12th at 4 PM. Pac-12 softball tournament at Stanford May 8-11th. Only question is how high a seed will Stanford get for the softball world series.

Definitely a down year for the baseball team. They have 19-22 record but definitely a young team that misses Montgomery. Amazing how many young arms on the team. Lets see how they do in the next 11 games before the tournament. Winner of the tournament gets the automatic CWS berth!

I need advice for a very rare situation

It's hard to believe how shitty my life has been since about 8:00pm ET last night, as I post this around 10am ET.

- First, my aunt sends me a text saying my mom is in ER after being rear-ended on Steven's Creek Blvd. in Cupertino. She's being held overnight for observation due to high troponin levels due to bruising from seatbelt on chest.
- Then the team I least wanted to win the CWS won.
- Then the Oilers lost while arguably playing better in Game 7 to the Panthers.
- Then I woke up to one of our 12 year old Yellow Labs walking all wobbly, took him to vet, and learned he has vertigo.

While at the vet office, I noticed the Jeep had a metal undercarriage section that had rusted out, and was near the ground about to fall off (thank you salt on roads), nearly hitting the ground, so I went out to look at it and when I did, the vet Doc came out to tell me about Cooper.. He saw it and said he could give me something to help knock it off. I thought he'd bring a hammer or an actual tool. Instead, he brought me what looked like a 6ft section of plastic moulding. So I take it, lie next to the car, and start poking at the metal. After a couple minutes of hitting the rusted metal, it was obvious this wasn't going to be enough to do the job. As soon as I realized this, my hands started feeling like they were being poked by tiny needles. This is where I need advice.

Turns out that thin section of moulding was fiberglass, and I have fiber glass splinters in both of my hands! I looked up "what to do" and saw advice to wash hands with warm water and soap, then wipe with a cloth. I did this and I don't think it helped much if at all. Obviously, I can type because the tips of my fingers weren't touching the fiberglass, but my palms and some fingers were. Now after washing my hands so much, they are dried out, and feel rough even without feeling fiberglass fibers, but I'm certain there is still fiberglass in my hands. I tried to see if I could see the fibers with a magnifying glass, but I can't definitely see anything.

Have any of y'all ever had fiberglass on your hands and know what to do about it? Will it eventually just get knocked out when skin dies? Do you have to get it removed to stop the irritation and micro pain it causes? It's annoying AF, let me tell you, so any advice or expertise would be much appreciated!

Baseball CWS Thread

Florida State pummeled UConn 24-4 in Game 1. Then, eked out a 10-8 12 inning victory to be the first team to punch their ticket to Omaha.
Then Virginia beat Kansas State to become the second team to Omaha. So at minimum, 2 ACC teams will be there.

It is possible 5 ACC teams make the CWS. In addition to FSU and Virginia, UNC (1-0), NC State (1-0), and Clemson (0-1) could make it.

It's also possible 5 SEC teams make the CWS. Kentucky (1-0), Florida (1-0), Texas A&M (1-0), Tennessee (1-1), and Georgia (0-1) could make it.

It sure looks like the ACC move is very good for Stanford Baseball.
